Financial Information eXchange (FIX) Program
The Amex provides direct FIX 4.2 connectivity to its AEMI system for regular trading traffic (orders and executions). FIX service bureaus provide clients with a single order-flow connection to multiple marketplaces. In turn, network operators aggregate FIX connectivity for the benefit of multiple participants in the Amex community.

For users replacing their Common Message Switch (CMS) connection with FIX, the transition is designed to be as a seamless automated procedure.

Eligibility for FIX connectivity
Any member or market participant acting on behalf of a member or member firm is eligible. Only members or parties acting through member firms may trade on the Amex.

Advantages of switching to the FIX protocol
FIX customers should experience faster trade turnaround of up to one second roundtrip. Also, only FIX users can take advantage of new orders types the Amex offers exclusively via FIX.

Establishing a FIX Connection through Service Bureaus
Customers interested in submitting order flow via FIX can interface with the Amex through FIX service bureaus. FIX service bureaus provide clients with a single order-flow connection to multiple marketplaces. In turn, the network operators aggregate FIX connectivity for multiple participants to the Amex community. The Amex is in the process of certifying multiple service bureaus.

Customers are responsible for managing their relationship with the FIX service bureaus they choose. Service bureaus currently certified include:

Extranet Connectivity
An extranet provider acts as an intermediary supplying customers and member firms with connectivity to Amex APIs or FIX.

Customers are responsible for managing their relationship with the extranet providers they choose. The Amex may be access using extranet providers listed below.

Establishing a Direct FIX Connection
Certification confirms that your client software application meets minimum Amex requirements with respect to design, implementation and quality assurance.

Once certified, you are permitted to send orders via FIX. No client application may connect to the FIX production environment without successfully passing the appropriate certification.

To complete the certification process, follow these steps:

  1. Review the Amex FIX Interface Messaging Specification .
  2. Email aemi-preproduction-support@amex.com to request access to the certification website.
  3. Address questions regarding development, certification, capacity assessment, production, etc., to the Amex Help Desk.
  4. Complete all testing tasks outlined in the certification guide. The guide functions as a procedural checklist for FIX certification.
  5. Upon certification, you are will be scheduled to send order flow via FIX in or production environment.

Can I still use the same mnemonics I currently use?
Yes, current mnemonics can be used to establish a FIX connection.
