Each year the Exchange requests that the Floor Associations recommend individuals for appointment as Floor Officials for the coming year. The proposed list is then presented to the Board for approval at its organizational meeting in January and if approved, the Officials take office immediately thereafter. Having knowledgeable, experienced and dedicated members who are familiar with Floor activities serve as Floor Officials is key to the effective and orderly supervision of operations on the Trading Floor.
Members who are interested in becoming a Floor Official should contact the head of their constituent association (Specialists Association, Floor Brokers Association or Options Market Makers Association) or the Office of the Secretary by Monday, September 19, 2005. All candidates will be subject to a background check and required to attend a training seminar and pass a qualifying exam. Further details regarding the training seminar schedule will be posted later.
Individuals who have successfully completed the program and passed the exam will be placed on the "qualified list" which will remain in effect for two years. The list will be used by the Floor Governors and heads of the Associations to select officials for appointment by the Board at the organizational meeting in January and to fill interim appointments during the year.
We urge you to consider qualifying as a Floor Official. With the advent of new rules, improved technology and the ever-changing environment of our marketplace, it is important that we have as many qualified members as possible for Floor Official selection.
