UltraShort Telecommunications ProShares (the fund) seeks daily investment results, before fees and expenses, that correspond to twice (200%) the inverse (opposite) of the daily performance of the Dow Jones U.S. Select Telecommunications Index. If the fund is successful in meeting its objective, its value (before fees and expenses) should gain approximately twice as much, on a percentage basis, as any decrease in the Dow Jones U.S. Select Telecommunications Index when the Index declines on any given day. Conversely, its value (before fees and expenses) should lose approximately twice as much, on a percentage basis, as any increase in the Index when the Index rises on a given day. The Dow Jones U.S. Select Telecommunications Index is a measure of U.S. stock market performance of fixed-line (regional and long-distance carriers) and mobile telephone services (cellular, satellite and paging services). It is a float adjusted, market capitalization weighted index that, as of Mar. 6, 2008, was comprised of the common stocks of 38 operating companies. Listed companies are selected for inclusion in the index by beginning with those names contained in the Dow Jones Wilshire 2500 and then culling out those stocks in the Telecommunications sector. In order to be included in the Index the company at the 90th percentile of the Index must have float-adjusted market capitalization of at least $75 million. As of Dec. 31, 2007, the Index included companies with capitalizations between $92 million and $253 billion. The average capitalization of the companies comprising the Index was approximately $13 billion. The fund will take positions in financial instruments (including derivatives) that the fund's investment advisor believes, in combination, should have similar daily return characteristics as twice (200%) the inverse performance of the Dow Jones U.S. Select Telecommunications Index. The fund will not sell short the individual equity securities of issuers contained in the Dow Jones U.S. Select Telecommunications Index. The fund's other investment strategies include employing leveraged investment techniques in seeking its investment objective; and investing assets not invested in financial instruments, in debt instruments and/or money market instruments. The fund is a series of ProShares Trust, a registered investment company. The fund intends to qualify as a regulated investment company under the Internal Revenue Code. |
