The iShares COMEX Gold Trust issues shares representing fractional undivided beneficial interests in its net assets. The assets of the trust consist primarily of gold held by the custodian on behalf of the trust. The objective of the trust is for the shares of the trust, called "iShares", to reflect the price of gold less the trust's expenses and liabilities. The Trust is not registered as an investment company under the Investment Company Act of 1940. The trust is not a commodity pool for purposes of the Commodity Exchange Act, and its sponsor is not subject to regulation by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission as a commodity pool operator, or a commodity trading advisor.
