Exogenous External to or independent of the mechanism of a system or a model. For example, the volatility of the price or return variable used in an option pricing model plays a very important role in determining the value of an option, but the volatility number is determined independently of the structure of the model. Hence, it is an exogenous variable. See also Endogenous.
